Day 27, September 11, Hiking in Canyonlands National Park

Grey Skies & sprinkles of rain greeted us this morning.
At 8:15, we set off for Canyonlands National Park. After a stop at the Visitor Centre, we decided to go to the end of the road, then work our way back.
The first stop was at Candlestick Tower Overlook which provided incredible views of canyons.
The end of the road was Grand View Point Overlook, where we enjoyed a Ranger talk before setting off on a 2 mile hike which afforded panoramic views along the cliff edge. Didn't realize we were standing on an overhang!

Following a lunch break, we stopped at "White Rim Overlook" which was another 2 mile round trip hike. It afforded incredible vistas of canyons & mountains. The weather cooperated.
Buck Canyon Overlook was the next stop - No hiking was required - the view was right there!
Went on to "Upheaval Dome", which is the oddest geologic feature in the park. Measuring 1500 feet deep, it is a crater rather than a dome. This involved yet another 0.8 mile hike to view the crater.

Moved  on to the Green River Overlook, which sits at 6000 feet with views of the Green River & Canyons. Unfortunately. photos do not do it justice.
Next was the Mesa Arch Trail, yet another 0.8 mile hike! Incredible scenery, once again!
Before returning to the campground, we made a stop at Dead Horse Point State Park. The park got its name from a legend. A band of wild mustangs was once hearded into the natural corral formed by the rock formations and inadvertantly left to die of thirst in view of the Colorado River. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture the canyon appropriately. The best I could do is as follows

It was a long day with many hikes and we are all tired!
