Thursday, August 28, 2014 Journey's End

It appears that we are back to the cooler weather!
After a breakfast of delicious french Toast, Marcel & Mike jacked up the trailer to check the wheels. All seems to be OK, so we were on the road by 10:45.

At 12:15, we were held up for 15 minutes due to construction at Iron Bridge. Shortly after, we stopped at the rest area at Blind River. Lucky for us, there was a group of Amish selling fresh vegetables and baking at the picnic shelter. We bought corn, green peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and green beans. It is a pleasant 18 C.

We arrived home at 4:40 and unloaded the fridge and some clothes. Then it was time to relax and think about the next destination..........

The total mileage for this trip was 13,071 KM.

Wednesday, August 27, back into Canada

There had been a light rain overnight and we got on the road at 9:30 onto M-35, which is a scenic route along Green Bay and Lake Michigan. Lost an hour when we returned to the Eastern time zone.

Stopped for fuel and lunch in Manistique under cloudy skies.

Eventually, we reached I-75 and headed north to Sault Ste Marie. After one last fuel stop, we arrived at the toll booth, where it cost us $7.00 to leave the U.S.

As we were crossing the bridge from Sault Michigan to Sault Ontario, we noticed the traffic entering the U.S. was backed up halfway across the bridge. There was no lineup for us!
No problem clearing customs, although I was prepared with lists of the contents of the fridge and of our purchases. I wasn't asked for either.

At 4:00, we arrive at our friends, Mike & Diane, who had just returned from their Newfoundland trip. After getting the truck & trailer parked in their driveway, we spent a very pleasant evening catching up. This included a delicious dinner of ribs, corn & salads. Best meal we have had in a while!

Home tomorrow

Tuesday, August 26, moving on

After an uneventful tree removal (no injuries!) we were packed up & on the road by 9:20. It was a very comfortable 16C.

My brother can have his driveway back!

We had a good drive, around Minneapolis, across the St. Croix River into Wisconsin and continued on Interstate 94. After a lunch stop, we exited on to WI 22 under sunny skies and 22C.

At 4:15, we arrived at the River Park Campground, Menominee, Michigan, after touring the streets of town trying to find it. The physical address was on Fifth Ave., but it is really on Sixth Ave. Go figure!!!

Turned out to be a very nice, tidy park with super clean restrooms (that is how I judge a park - ha ha). The sites are paved with neatly trimmed grass. Our site was right on the Menominee River.
The bonus was that the park is right behind K-Mart (walking distance). That helped put in some time.

Across the river was a Naval yard where there was one ship ready to launch and another in dry-dock.

One more sleep and we will be home.

Monday, August 25, Shopping and Tree removal

Better late than never to finish up this trip!

Time for some last minute shopping. We checked out the newest Walmart, then went to the Cub grocery store. Then next stop was at Aldi, a great grocery store where you never know what they will have - always great bargains! The final destination was Von Hanson's meats for their delicious frozen potato casserole.

Over lunch, we watched deer wandering through the backyard

and Chris & Marcel decided to remove a tree from the front of the house. Out came the chain saw....

It was a bit challenging to reach the top branches, but Chris was able to remove them from the roof of the garage.

The job was completed in 2 hours.
