After noting that it is the 1 year “anniversary” of Marcel’s accident, we set off for Lookout Mountain again. This time we made it to the top – the observation deck at the Buffalo Bill Museum and grave provides a spectacular view of the Denver metropolitan area and the Colorado Rockies.
After visiting the park, William F. Cody asked that he be buried there. He died in 1917 at the age of 71 and his wishes were fulfilled.
From there we drove back down to the campground, packed up & moved on to Wal-Mart (the campground was full so we couldn’t stay). We then picked up a 3 hour Gray Line coach tour of Denver . Among the highlights was a stop at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where Pope John Paul II said mass at World Youth Day VIII in 1997. The church has incredible stained glass windows.
We had a tour of the State Capitol building, which is an imposing structure that resembles the U.S. Capitol in Washington . Of course, we had to take pictures on the 13th step on the west entrance, which is exactly 1 mile above sea level.
We also saw The Pepsi Centre, where the Colorado Avalanche play hockey; the Mile High Stadium, where the Denver Broncos play football; and Coors Field, where the Colorado Rockies play baseball.
After a long day, we went out to McGrath’s Fish House for dinner.
