Day 24, September 8, Arches National Park, First day

Arches has the largest number of natural stone arches in the country, all formed by the weathering of openings in vertical slabs of sandstone. Along with more thaan 2000 arches are a diversity of fins, spires, balanced rocks & other startling geographic formations.
After stopping at the Moab Visitor Centre, armed with brochures & maps, we were off to Arches.
Spent time at the fascinating & very well done Arches Visitor Centre.
We met up with a Park Ranger for  guided tour of the Windows Trail.
First visited was the Turret Arch, so named because of the turret on the left side.Next stop was at the "North & South Windows"
Took a short hike around "Balanced Rock", which is 128ft. (39M) high. The boulder is 55ft high and weighs 3500 tons!
We had been told that we must see "Delicate Arch" since it may not be standing for much longer. So, we set off on a strenuous, uphill (480ft elevation gain), 1 1/2 mile hike to find it. After an hour walking in the blazing sun (32C), we finally reached the Arch. We were rewarded with a beautiful view of the Delicate Arch.
After heading back down the trail, we decided to call it a day, as we were all in need of a long, cooling shower! A new adventure awaits tomorrow.
