Sunday, January 20, Exploring the area

Woke up at 7:40 this morning to 16.8C and thin clouds in the sky. Went for a walk around the park then it was off to the Clubhouse for internet. Had to leave at 10:45, as they were setting up for a church service.

We decided to go for an exploration drive to Merritt Island. After crossing over the Indian River (Intracoastal Waterway) on the A. Max Brewer Bridge under sunny 22C skies, we arrived at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Information Centre. There, we walked around the informative boardwalk which displayed the native flora and fauna which included an alligator, and live oak trees covered in Spanish Moss.

Next, we went back across the bridge to Hwy 1 and south to NASA Parkway, leading to the Space Centre.

At 12:50, we arrived at the Kennedy Space Centre, paid for parking, only to discover that the entrance is $50.00 each. We decided not to go, as we only had less than 4 hours to see the whole place. We’ll return another day, early.

By 1:15, we continued back out to Hwy 1, then south to the next bridge across the Indian River again, then over the Banana River to Port Canaveral. We were surprised to see several cruise ships in port.

Carried on down the highway to Cocoa Beach, which is the surf capital. We stopped at Blockhouse Beach, across from Patrick Air force Base. I think the tide was coming in as we dodged the waves!

At 2:50, we turned west to Hwy 3 north on Merritt Island. Along the way, we saw many more ridiculously huge homes!
After a 203km drive, we arrived back at Seasons in the Sun RV Park at 4:15.
