Saturday, August 9, 2014 Hot Springs

It was clear and 8C when we got up, then by the time we were packed up & on the road, it was sunny & 13C. We headed east, then turned north on US 97 towards Bend.

We stopped at Wal-Mart in Bend & upon returning to the vehicle discovered that our exit route was blocked by an inconsiderate trucker! After walking around, we found another clear way out & were back on the road.

Driving mile after barren mile of flat wasteland through the Oregon Badlands at 4700 feet.

Nothing much grows on the barren hills. It is a warm day, 31C at 2:00.

At Burns, we turned on to OR 78 to go to Crane. I had heard about the Crystal Crane Hot Springs and there was a campground there.........

When we arrived, the water in the Springs was 103F, just a little warmer than the air temperature! (30C, 86F)

It is a natural hot spring, the water temperature being controlled by Mother Nature.

Of course, we had to get out our swim suits and go for a dip in the healing mineral waters

It was very refreshing when we got out..

Our site was volcanic gravel, as grass could not grow there.

It got very windy in the evening, blowing in some clouds. This made for a beautiful sky as the sun was going down.
